It is a deeply significant ritual, representing the closure of the physical journey of the deceased. It is also customary to place small stones on the grave as a sign of respect and remembrance.

Christian Customs: Christian graveside services typically involve a short ceremony that includes prayers, scripture readings, and a final blessing. Flowers are commonly placed on the grave and gifts like garden stones or wind chimes might be given to the family. In addition, mourners might place a handful of soil on the casket.
